Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy · Last updated: October 2026

Welcome to the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, digital learning platforms, course registration services, and attendance at our physical training facilities. By using our services or registering for a course, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms.

These Terms are provided in the interest of transparency and for general informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for review by your own legal counsel.

1. No Medical Advice or Patient Care Relationship

The content, demonstrations, techniques, and materials provided by the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy, its faculty, or its partners are for educational and training purposes only.

The Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The training provided is designed to enhance clinical competence but does not replace the professional judgment of the licensed healthcare provider. Reliance on any information provided by the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy is solely at your own professional risk.

2. Course Registration, Fees, and Account Security

To access certain courses or digital modules, you may be required to create a user account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.

  • Accurate Credentials: You must provide accurate, current, and complete professional credential information during registration.
  • Payment & Deadlines: Registration is not guaranteed until full payment is processed. All course fees, administrative fees, and cancellation rules are subject to the specific policy displayed at the time of purchase.

3. Cancellations and Refunds

Because our fresh-tissue labs are strictly capped and specimens are secured in advance, cancellations made within 45 days of the course are non-refundable. However, we do allow registrations to be transferred to a colleague or applied to a future course date with at least 45 days' notice. Any cancellation made prior to the 45-day window will be issued a refund subject to a 10% cancellation fee.

To cancel or transfer a registration, contact spetterson@ofals.org.

4. Lab Safety and Code of Conduct

Attendance at our physical Bioskills Lab in Manhattan requires strict adherence to safety protocols.

  • Compliance with Safety Rules: Attendees must follow all instructions provided by the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy staff and faculty, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper handling of anatomical specimens.
  • Dismissal: The Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy reserves the right to deny entry or remove any individual from the facility who fails to comply with safety standards, displays disruptive behavior, or violates professional codes of conduct, without a refund.
  • Prohibition of Outside Media: No unauthorized photography, video recording, or streaming is permitted inside the laboratory environment to respect the dignity of anatomical gifts and protect proprietary industry technology.

5. Intellectual Property Rights

All educational materials, including but not limited to digital modules, video lectures, course curriculum, text, graphics, and logos, are the property of the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark laws.

  • You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access materials for your personal, professional development.
  • You may not record, download, reproduce, distribute, or publicly display the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy course content without explicit written permission.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability

  • As-Is Basis: All services, website features, and educational content are provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis without warranties of any kind.
  • Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Orthopaedic Foundation, the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy, its directors, employees, and faculty shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of our educational materials, your attendance at our labs, or your subsequent medical treatment of patients.

7. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and any disputes arising out of your interaction with the Orthopaedic Foundation Learning Academy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action must be filed in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.

8. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Your continued use of our platform or attendance at our courses constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
